Peru Utilities is now offering the Surge Protection Program. Protect your home appliances and electronics with a meter based surge arrester from Peru Utilities. What is surge protection?
There is always the risk that electrical surges may enter your home through the service entrance conductors and cause damage to appliances and electronics. A
meter base surge arrester works to dissipate surges in voltage outside of the building to protect motor driven appliances and home electronics.
I use “plug-in” power strips. Do I need a meter base arrester?
Yes. Layers of defense should be incorporated for the greatest level of protection. By providing a safe path to ground outside the building, the meter base arrester greatly reduces the risk of damage inside the building and increases the effectiveness of “plug-in” power strips. This unit
DOES NOT protect telephone or cable services.
What does the warranty cover?
For residential customers, the manufacture’s limited warranty warranties typical household appliances, as well as, home electronics against damaging surges that pass through a failed meter base arrester. The warranty does not cover direct lightning strikes, medical/life support equipment, well pumps, pool pumps or detached buildings. This unit will not protect against data loss, low voltage or power outages. The warranty period is 10 years and provides up $50,000 per failure.

Doesn’t my homeowner’s insurance provide similar coverage?
Your insurance probably covers damages from power surges. It also probably requires a deductible. As insurance premiums increase, this program is an affordable option that can limit the claims against your policy. The manufacture’s limited warranty is the primary claim before other warranties or insurances.
How will I be billed for this service?
A separate billing statement for $6.50/month will be included with your regular monthly statement for 24 months. At the end of the initial service agreement, the service will be continued on a monthly basis. Peru Utilities will accept one form of payment for both billing statements.
Can I install the unit?
No. Peru Utilities technicians will install the unit after a thorough inspection of service
entrance. The service entrance and electric meter must be properly sized and grounded prior to installation. All required repairs or upgrades to the service are the sole responsibility of the customer.
